Last session at Our Lady St Werburghs

The year 5 pupils have worked hard to create some beautiful artwork and have actually made more than we can fit onto one banner, so we will be making another one to go outside their classroom.

Positioning the felt and fabric word designs onto the banner,

and making an extra banner to accommodate all the extra artwork!

More from Blackfriars

The first time we have ever seen felt being made using a wheelchair!

The finished felt pieces laid out and ready to be fixed onto the banner.

Friarswood Primary School

Last week we had two very busy afternoons working with pupils in year 2 to make felt shapes and friendship bracelets and yesterday worked with Mrs Herman's lovely year 6 class.

We identified some words that linked to our thoughts and ideas about friendship and community and proceeded to create fabric designs using these words with masking tape and paint.....

 Reliable

 Playful

 Funny

 Be polite

Fun

The students worked really hard to make their designs unique and colourful.

We have one more afternoon with the year 5 pupils and then can start assembling the work!

More about Friendship

We continued exploring our thoughts about friendship with year 5 pupils at Our Lady St Werburghs Catholic Primary, and made a list of the qualities we valued in our friends.....

We then used the textile design method of masking tape resist to transfer some of the chosen qualities on to fabric (to be used in the final artwork).

You can just about see the words in masking tape!

Friendship bracelets

Yesterday, at the end of another lively session at Our Lady St Werburghs Catholic Primary, we just about had time to make a friendship bracelet.

At first it seemed like the bracelets would just be too big but we kept rolling/felting and just before hometime they were starting to look and feel like they should!

Blackfriars Newcastle

We love the art room at Blackfriars, a great space to work in! During our first workshop session we established the theme of 'change and welcome', as the school is soon to change its status and they have just welcomed a new headteacher.

The students and staff certainly made us feel very welcome and created some amazing felt pieces.

The final artwork will be displayed in the reception area to welcome everyone to the school.

Our Lady St Werburghs Catholic Primary School

The creative sessions at Our Lady St Werburghs Catholic Primary School started on Monday 28th February. We had a brilliant time working with year 5 pupils. We began the workshop by chatting about community and what it means to each of us, and thinking about who or what we would miss the most if we had to go and live in a different and unfamiliar place.

We then created beautiful felt circle and heart shapes to be included in the final artwork, and finished off by making a felt friendship bracelet to take away and either wear ourselves or to give away.

Langdale Primary School

Back in February we worked with Langdale Primary School, and had a wonderful time with pupils from KS1 and KS2 creating beautiful textile artworks to be displayed in the reception space providing a colourful welcome for visitors.

We used 3 textile design processes to make individual and collaborative pieces to be included in the final artwork that will transform the reception space.

There will be a fitting sometime this week and then with a little more finishing the work will be ready to install!
